I was first introduced to this company after reading a fictional account of a girl growing up and coming of age in the tea communities in Yunnan Province of China…
If you know me, I rarely ever read fiction, but when I heard it was centered around the life of tea in Yunnan, I was headed to the library… The book is titled, “The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See” For me, a page turner, It was hard to put down.
The author in preparation for the book, had been connected to and traveled with Linda Louie of Bana Tea Company to China and to many of these tea mountains where Linda sources her tea.
Intrigued, I looked up the website:
www.banateacompany.com
and was impressed with her extensive selection of teas, accessories, educational information, and videos. Although primarily Pu’er, she does offer a few other options of black, dark, green, oolong and whites.
So, being a Pu’erh enthusiast… ok, fanatic. I decided to try out one of her teas. The tea I chose was the following:
Bana Limited Edition Pu’erh; 2008 Limited Edition-Raw Pu’erh 50G
The tea came very nicely packaged and with full brewing instructions on how to properly prepare for the best cup of tea.
Customer service was excellent and my specific delivery instructions were hand written on the package. Communication from order to delivery was top notch.
The tea itself was great. After rinsing the leaves, I prepared them in a small clay teapot (150ml), following the recommended brewing instructions…
the first few steeps at 10,10,20 seconds were light, but definitely could taste the apricot notes and it had a slightly dry finish, but the apricot lingered…
the middle of the session was my favorite as it had the deepest color and the boldest flavor… still pulling a smooth apricot, with an additional nutty note, and the slightly dry finish.
The last three steeps of the session began to lighten again, but didn’t disappoint in flavor.
Very impressed with my first purchase, and will definitely be back to purchase again… and try another.
If you are a Pu’er enthusiast, fanatic or just simply wanting to try something different from your usual glass of grass… order a nice quality Pu’er from Bana Tea Co. You will enjoy the quality and smooth flavor that lingers on your palate. My guess is, you like I might return for another offering.
Until next time my friends,
Raj
